Transaction Download

Select Details

The Transaction Download function allows you to extract a file of transactions from any of the accounts that you have registered for Bendigo e-banking. This file can then be Downloaded to your PC for subsequent loading into any of the applications you run. There is no limitation on what you can do with the file once it is on your PC, however we anticipate the more common use will be to load it into an accounting package such as Money, Quicken or MYOB. Accordingly we have created file formats that suit these packages along with generic formats that can be loaded into literally any other package that has an import facility (e.g. Excel or Access).

Choose the Accounts category from the top navigation menu then click the Transaction Download item from the side navigation menu. There are two (2) basic steps to create the extract file:

  • Step 1: Select Details
  • Step 2: Confirmation

The first of these steps is described in detail below, whilst the second step is described in the next section labelled Confirmation.

The Select Details step allows you to select the account from which to extract the transactions, along with the date range and the file format.

Account

The drop down list labelled Account will present all of the accounts you have registered for Bendigo e-banking.

Date Range

If you have not previously downloaded transactions for the selected account, the From and To dates will need to be manually selected by you using the drop down lists provided.

If you have previously downloaded from the selected account the From date will automatically be set to the day after your last download and the To date will be set to the period you last selected. The period can be set to any of the following options:

  • Up to Yesterday
  • Up to the End of last month
  • 1 day
  • 7 days
  • 14 days
  • 1 month

The first two options are actually fixed date calculations for the To date. These calculations will only be affected by the current date (regardless of the From Date).

The last four options will be used to calculate the To date depending on the From date. Because the From and To dates are inclusive, each of the last four options actually adds one (1) day less than you might at first think.

For example these From dates and periods will calculate the following To dates:

From Date
Period
To Date
1-Jan-2002
1 day
1-Jan-2002
1-Jan-2002
7 days
7-Jan-2002
1-Jan-2002
14 days
14-Jan-2002
1-Jan-2002
1 month
31-Jan-2002
2-Jan-2002
1 month
1-Feb-2002
1-Feb-2002
1 month
28-Feb-2002

Notes:

  1. Dates are inclusive (i.e. transactions with dates equal to or greater than the From date and equal to or less than the To date will be included in the extract file).
  2. Only valid combinations of past dates (less than today's date) will be accepted in the date fields.
  3. You can always override these dates and set the From and To dates manually just as you did on the initial download. You should of course take care in these situations to ensure you do not duplicate transactions you have already downloaded.

File Format

Initially the Format will be set to that last used to download from this account. If no previous downloads have been performed then the Format will be blank. The following Formats can be selected from the drop down list:

  • Money
  • Quicken
  • MYOB
  • CSV standard
  • CSV extended
  • Agrimaster
  • Phoenix
  • BAI2

For further details on each of these formats refer to the Download Formats section.

Limit

The download limit is used to control how many transactions can be extracted in each download file. Initially this will be set to 1000 transactions, but if required can be increased by contacting us on 1300 366 666.

If this limit is reached during the extraction process, the file will be "reduced" to the nearest whole day's worth of transactions. Once you have downloaded to the nearest whole day, another download can be requested to retrieve the remainder of your transactions. If you have more transactions for a single day than your limit, you will need to contact us on 1300 366 666 to have your limit increased.

Action Buttons

There are two action buttons available:

Start Download

Pressing the Start Download button will direct you to the Transaction Download - Confirmation screen and commence the extraction of your records. For further details of the options available on this screen refer to the Confirmation section.

Show Download History

Pressing the Show Download History button will direct you to the Transaction Download History screen. The details of the From and To Dates plus the number of transactions downloaded on the last five (5) occasions for the selected account are displayed. This "history table" is only updated once you choose to download the extracted transaction to your PC via the Download Now button on the Transaction Download - Confirmation screen.

Top

Confirmation

The Transaction Download - Confirmation step commences the extraction of your transactions from your account. Once all the records have been extracted the details of the extraction will be displayed. The display includes the number of records extracted and the details you chose on the Select Details screen.

If no records were found, you will be returned to the Select Details screen and an appropriate message will be displayed. If the number of records found exceeds your download limit, the extract file will be trimmed to the nearest whole day's worth of transactions, and a message will be displayed indicating the date that was reached. Once you have downloaded to the nearest whole day, another download can be requested to retrieve the remainder of your transactions. If you have more transactions for a single day than your limit you will need to contact us on 1300 366 666 to have your limit increased.

Transactions are extracted based on the date a transaction is actually posted to the account, not the date it is deemed to be effective from.

For example if a transaction is posted to your account on the 3rd of the month but is "backdated" to the 1st of the month, it will be extracted with the other records for the 3rd of the month. This approach is necessary to ensure records are not missed or duplicated.

Continuing this example it might be the case that transactions for the 1st of the month were extracted on the 2nd of the month, those for the 2nd were extracted on the 3rd and finally those for the 3rd were extracted on the 4th. If the extraction for the 3rd did not also include the transaction backdated to the 1st, it may:

  • cause the backdated transaction to be missed (as the other transactions for the 1st have already been extracted);

    or

  • cause all other transactions for the 1st to be duplicated (as the transactions for the 1st have already been extracted)..

Fortunately the approach we have taken avoids both of these scenarios, unless you override the dates to be extracted.

Action Buttons

There are two action buttons available:

Download Now

Pressing the Download Now button will update the history of downloads for the account, and invokes your browser's standard File Download function. The exact screen you will see at this time depends on your PC's operating system and your browser type and version. The screen should ask you if you want to Open/Run the file from its current location or to Save it to disk. You should choose to Save it to disk. You can save it to any of the disks available on your computer (floppy or hard drives). Where you put it and how you name it, is entirely up to you and will depend on how you plan to subsequently use the file.

As previously mentioned, selecting the Download Now button will update the Transaction Download - History table. This table is displayed when the Show Download History button is selected on the Select Details screen. The most recent entry in this table is used to calculate the initial From and To date range settings. Once the history is updated and the file downloaded, you can use the Back button to perform further downloads, or choose any other function from the navigation menus (e.g. Transfer Funds).

Back

Pressing the Back button will direct you back to the Select Details screen where you can change the Account, Date Range and/or the Format used for the next extraction.

Note: You should ensure to only select the Back button available within the Bendigo e-banking screen. Pressing the "Back" button on your browser will force Bendigo e-banking to logout.
