Statement by Bendigo Bank
In response to recent questions and commentary regarding our decision to close an account.
There has been significant debate on this matter, with many different views expressed.
To be clear, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is a secular organisation, and we don’t take sides in debates such as building a mosque.
Since 1858, we’ve made a sustained effort to build a strong reputation for community building and customer connection.
As a result, we make considered decisions about what we should and shouldn’t be associated with.
Our review of the Stop the Mosque in Bendigo Facebook page revealed a large level of suggested violence and other unreasonable commentary.
Our Bank values tolerance and inclusiveness, qualities which are an important part of a strong community, and as a result we determined it would be wrong for us to be associated with fundraising on this Facebook page.
This is the Bank’s position in relation to this matter.
