Chip technology for merchants
As a Bendigo Bank merchant the security of your transactions is important to us. That’s why we’re adding new chip technology to our debit and credit cards and upgrading your terminal software to accept this new technology.
Widely used around the world, chip technology is now the global standard for debit and credit card security.
The new chips are embedded on the front of customers’ cards above the card number. The chip securely stores the card data making it harder for criminals to fraudulently copy customer cards.
With new chip technology, cardholders can continue to make purchases using either a personal identification number (PIN) or a signature – with PIN-based transactions offering an even higher level of security.
Three key benefits of chip technology for merchants
- Chip enabled terminals help to reduce card fraud.
- Your upgraded terminal will have security features that meet global standards.
- With a host of new security features, chip cards are much more difficult to counterfeit.
Upgrading merchant terminals
Bendigo Bank will be providing its merchant customers with the benefits of new chip technology by upgrading existing terminal software.
The upgrade will be completed remotely (overnight at off-peak times). If you’re a Bendigo Bank merchant customer, all you need to do is continue to leave your terminal switched ‘ON’ overnight – and we’ll do the rest.
Once the upgrade is completed, our merchant terminals will then be able to process payments from both chip and magnetic stripe cards.
