Hervey Bay Community Bank Branch

27/02/2017

2017 Hervey Bay Community Bank Business Bursaries - Applications close March 17 The commitment of Hervey Bay Community Bank Branch to build stronger communities is demonstrated by what we do - from sponsoring local sporting clubs through to providing grants to local community groups. Much of this commitment is focused on our youth and we are now taking this one step further as we launch our new Business Bursaries program. This program aims to assist local students who are academically capable and community minded but experiencing difficulty in funding the high cost of study. Our Community Bank Branch is proud to support local youth to further their education, and maybe one day the Fraser Coast community will benefit directly from the skills and knowledge they bring. In order to qualify for the bursary, the student must meet the following criteria: 1 must reside in and/or attend secondary school in the Fraser Coast region 2 must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident 3 must be studying a business or related subject at a recognised high (secondary) school 4 should be able to demonstrate community involvement 5 should be able to demonstrate the challenges (financial and/or social) which are hindering the student's ability to undertake further study 6 should be academically motivated Bursaries will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee and will be based on how an application addresses the above criteria. The intention of the bursary is to assist with costs related to study, including accommodation and course costs, study related materials/equipment, text books, tutoring and/or education related travel (within Australia). The maximum award is $1,000 per student per annum and the bursary will be offered for a period of one year only. Dependent on the needs of the student and the applications received, the selection committee reserve the right to reduce the amount awarded in accordance with a needs and merit basis. We are inviting applications from 1 March 2017 until 17 March 2017. In addressing the bursary's criteria, a demonstration of academic achievement, community involvement and contribution, leadership roles and the financial and/or social challenges being experienced is required. I have attached a copy of the application form to the email but it can also be accessed via our website. We hope that you may be able to assist us by helping to spread the word about our new Business Bursaries to your Year 11 and 12 students, whose circumstances may be a match to the criteria and who may be interested in applying. If you are interested in hearing more about our bursaries and ways in which we help the community, please do not hesitate to contact by email at secretary@bankcommunity.com.au.
