A significant amount of work and public consultation has been undertaken in relation to the feasibility of establishing the Mareeba Community BankŪ Branch of Bendigo Bank.
A group of interested community members was briefed by Bendigo Bank in October 2003 in relation to the proposal to establish Mareeba Community BankŪ Branch‚ and a committee formed to evaluate the proposal.
A preliminary public meeting was held to discuss the Community BankŪ concept and the steps required to establish a Community BankŪ Branch of Bendigo at Mareeba. As a result‚ it was agreed that the parties would investigate the possibility of opening a new Community BankŪ branch in Dimbulah‚ together with converting the existing Mareeba Bendigo Bank Branch to a Community BankŪ branch. As a result the committee conducted a feasibility study in relation to the proposed branch.
The committee considered the performance of the existing branch of Bendigo Bank in Mareeba as well as the results of the feasibility study.
Based on the results and the historical information regarding the Mareeba branch‚ the committee decided it was in the best interests to proceed with the proposal of forming one company which would manage and operate both branches.
