Katoomba & Upper Blue Mountains Community BankŪ Branch opens for business

In a major boost for the Upper Blue Mountains‚ the Katoomba & Upper Blue Mountains Community BankŪ Branch was officially launched on Monday 7 December 2009.

Chairman of Katoomba and Upper Blue Mountains Community Enterprise Limited‚ Robert Stock said the opening was attended by Councilor Janet Mays; Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Regional Manager ‚Wayne Simpson and Kevin Abrahamson‚ a Director of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank.

"The company that manages the branch is delighted with the uptake of shares and believes the local community has established a bank branch that will benefit the community now and in the future." Mr. Stock Said.

"The branch will become a focus for local businesses and residents‚ and a community asset of which we can all be proud of."

Located at 117 Katoomba Street‚ Katoomba‚ the branch has become a reality following the issue of a prospectus and the subsequent purchase of shares in the venture by local residents.

The successful Community BankŪ concept is based around local residents and businesses taking ownership of the local bank branch and returning profits back into the community by way of funding local community based projects and also returning dividends to local shareholders.
