Get in the Swim – Southern Hydro Pool Project

A hydro pool for the southern suburbs is the aim of Get in the Swim – the Southern Community Hydro Pool project.

A specially designed, heated and managed hydrotherapy pool will provide a unique opportunity for people with muscular injuries and other disabilities to exercise and strengthen their bodies and minds.

The pool will also be available for general public use.

The Southern Community Hydro Pool will be located at the Berendale School, a special school in the most positive sense of the word, in Hampton East. Intellectually disabled students from the school will also benefit from the use of hydrotherapy service.

The pool will be operated by Bentleigh Bayside Community Health Service who have committed funds to the pool project and has many clients requiring hydrotherapy who either travel long distances or miss out completely on this vital service.

The general public from the Bayside, Stonnington, Port Phillip, Glen Eira, Kingston and Monash will also have use of the facilities.

Funds for the Southern Community Hydro Pool Project will be raised from government grants, support from the Bendigo Bank and its Community Banks in the region – but we still need your help to raise the remaining funds.

Community Enterprise Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Bendigo Bank, will administer the community appeal. All donations of $2 and over will be tax-deductible and can be made at Bendigo Bank branch.

Get in the Swim and help bring a hydro pool to your community.

Rural Payback Time

The country and our farmers are the backbone of Australia – but right now they are doing it tough. The drought affects us all but especially our people on the land.

And in tough time we help one another - that’s why Rural Payback Time has been set up. Rural Payback Time is about giving back, lending a hand and most importantly supporting our farmers and their rural communities.

The concept behind Rural Payback Time isn’t about charity – it’s about encouragement and not just sitting back and waiting for someone else to lend a hand.

What can you do? You get active – organise a community barbecue, arrange a day out for a farmer, buy school books for kids who might not have been able to go to school this year – but do it now. When we do things together we can overcome many obstacles.

And you can do it as a Rural Payback Time activity. Simply promote your event as a Rural Payback Time function and people will know your supporting our farmers. To get your Rural Payback Time logo contact us, and we can help you with getting organised. For details of how you can be involved, phone 1300 304 541 between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Or you can donate some money to help make sure these things happen. Your donations will give help when and where it’s needed to our friends in the bush. Funds donated to Rural Payback Time will be administered by the Bendigo bank’s philanthropic arm, Community Enterprise Foundation, who will make sure your money gets back to where it’s needed. Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.

Donations can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch.

The Kew Historical Society aims to keep the Kew Court House in community hands, and by joining with Community Enterprise™ Foundation to run the appeal hope to riase $2.1million to restore the beautiful buildings.
The Kew Court House served the Kew community for 118 years and the now needs that community’s help.

The City of Boroondara has acquired the right to purchase the buildings if the funds can be raised to help restore the building for community use.

A committee of eminent patrons and community leaders has been formed to ensure the funds are raised through a number of community activities and promoting the appeal.

The Court House will then be made available to communities groups to use for arts and cultural initiatives, community groups, adult education purposes and other needs.

Bendigo Animal Shelter Inc.

Founded in 2003, Bendigo Animal Shelter offers an innovative approach to animal and people welfare issues by combining the two. The organisation provides 3 important services as follows:

  1. Community Support Programs including
    • Bendigo Pet Partners (providing volunteers and their accredited dogs for visits to patients and residents of ‘care facilities’);
    • Seniors for Seniors (providing support for elderly pet companionship);
    • Pets in Crisis (supporting victims of domestic violence, those in need of emergency accommodation and those that have regular visits to hospital or respite care that own pets); and
    • PetsASSIST which provides support for housebound and incapacitated members of our community with their pet care.

    These programs are offered to assist with building relationships and addressing isolation issues.

  2. Education and support services for responsible pet ownership and basic care of animals.

  3. Rehoming of unwanted animals. Founded on a Pro Life Policy, the Shelter does not euthanase any animal unless it is suffering a debilitation disease or has repeatedly attacked another animal or person and cannot be retrained. Unlimited veterinary care is provided and retraining to address any behavioural problems to ensure all animals are ready for rehoming.

After an exhaustive search the organisation has recently purchased land to build facilities that will allow Bendigo Animal Shelter to have a base from which it will operate and to greatly expand the services it currently offers.

The appeal for the Bendigo Animal Shelter project will assist with the building of a new animal shelter and the pet boarding facility.
