Bank goes casual for a cause for the Big Heart Project

5 May 2017 |Appeals

Bendigo Bank staff are going casual for a cause on Friday to raise money for Love Your Sister's world record attempt to make the longest line of five cent coins.

The Big Heart Project is the final fundraising act of Love your Sister brainchild Connie Johnson. Connie and her brother Sam have become two of Australia's leading advocates for breast cancer.  Connie's health has recently declined and she has stopped all treatment, but before she goes, she is determined to break a world record of her own.

To break the record, they need to collect 3.951 million five cent coins. Connie will lay the coins in the shape of a massive love heart, visible from space, on May 10 at the Lyneham Netball Courts in her hometown of Canberra.

Bendigo Bank staff from the Bendigo office are making a heart of their own for Connie. Before donating the proceeds from Friday's casual for a cause, the money will be made into a heart at the Bendigo Central Branch.

Bendigo Bank has been a longtime supporter and partner of Love your Sister. In fact all 530 Bendigo Bank branches across Australia are collection points for Love Your Sister donations.

Executive Customer Service Improvement Andrew Watts said it was no surprise to see Bendigo Bank supporting the Big Heart Project.

"It's great to see Australians already getting behind such a great cause, and while they already have enough coins to break the World Record, we don't think it should stop there," he said.

"Our Bank knows that people with a purpose make great things happen, so with every metre of five cent coins equal to $2.90, together let's help Connie and Sam make every cent and every metre count."
