30 August 2019 |Community news

To celebrate our 15th birthday, we’re inviting our community to decide the two winning projects in our 15K for 15Y giveaway! Our independent panel has whittled the applicants down to 3 finalists – it’s now up to you to vote for the top 2, who will each share in up to $15,000!

Community members can place a vote in-branch now and, depending on their banking activity, will be allocated bonus voting tokens to place extra votes for their preferred project.

Community members can place a vote in branch and will be allocated bonus tokens to vote based on their banking activity, as outlined below:

Banking activity Bonus tokens allocated
Over the counter transactions One token
New accounts/Insurance Policy Five tokens
New Personal Loans/Credit Cards Ten tokens
New Home Loans Twenty tokens

Voting will close in-branch at 5.00pm on 29 November 2019 and the two winning projects will be announced at our Birthday Celebration on Monday 2 December.

Project/Program:

We currently have an established undercover area located between the football oval and netball court which is used all year round.

We are wanting to add another bay to this area, which we intend to lock, so valuables (eg. BBQ) can be stored.

Our current canteen design puts pressure on our volunteers on busy days.

This outdoor kitchen area/all purpose area would reduce the burden on all involved, particularly finals and carnivals.

Community Impact:

Our outdoor kitchen/all purpose area would impact on the entire Dimboola community:

  • Dimboola Cricket Club would benefit and share facilities as they are part of our club (still undergoing amalgamation).
  • Dimboola Basketball Association runs occasional BBQs and need to source BBQ from committee people homes. They would be encouraged to use this area.
  • Dimboola Swap and Meet will be offered a place to reflect on their day.
  • Dimboola Primary School/DMSC can use for their activities day.
  • Dimboola Rowing Club can use when holding Regatta and BBQ used could offer this facility.
  • HPV (Human Powered Vehicles) are an external source using the Dimboola Recreation Reserve for one weekend a year. This year they will have access to our new netball clubrooms for toilets, showers, etc. Our outdoor kitchen/all purpose area could be accessible to them to.

What would a share of $15,000 do for your organisation?

Our current canteen is outdated and needs revamping. It struggles to provide timely service mainly due to restricted space and poor design.

Having an outdoor kitchen area/all purpose area will reduce pressure on our hardworking kitchen volunteers, while providing opportunity to increase service and sales from food availability.

We are not only looking at it as a money making investment but an inviting and accessible place for the wider Dimboola community. It's the perfect distance for watching sports and related activities while keeping an eye on the kids in the enclosed playground. A positive inclusion for all.

Project/Program:

We would like to take out a window and install bifold doors and steps leading to the outside area. This will allow us to have open area on nice days as well as better vision for watching the children outside if parents are inside.

Community Impact:

This will benefit the parents and children who attend playgroup by providing better supervision and a more inclusive open area for children to play and parents to socialise.

What would a share of $15,000 do for your organisation?

It would be better and safer atmosphere for parents and their children attending Playgroup.

Project/Program:

We wish to erect a shade sail structure over the playground to ensure sun protection for the children who play here.

Community Impact:

Children within the Dimboola District and those from families throughout the Wimmera and Mallee – extending from Hopetoun and Yaapeet to Yanac and Kaniva, and South to Horsham will have protection from the sun and rain while their parents and family members participate in sport on the pitch area to keep fit and healthy and have a social, low-cost community – based entertainment pursuit.

What would a share of $15,000 do for your organisation?

This would enable the Health and Fitness Centre user groups to purchase a shade shelter structure. In-kind costs of labour and possible fundraising would also be used, if required.

Entry is only open to VIC organisations that are not-for-profit and community groups within a 70km radius of Dimboola VIC 3414. Entries close 31/07/19 4pm AEDT.
