Taking payments in person

If you are experiencing technical faults with your terminal, please contact the Merchant Help Desk on 1800 334 702, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For any other enquiries or issues, please contact Merchant Services on 1300 132 741, between 8:30am and 5pm AEST on weekdays.

You can also email our Merchant Services team.

This is an industry requirement as an offline transaction is taken at the merchant's own risk, as it has not sought authorization from the issuer.

Please contact American Express directly to complete an application. If you require assistance on how to do this, please email Merchant Services.

We provide next day settlement for transactions processed before 11:45pm AEST, if your nominated settlement bank account is with Bendigo Bank.

If your account is with another financial institution, the settlement will take two days or more, depending on your financial institution.

These can be collected at your local Bendigo Bank branch and are available free of charge.

For settlement issues or enquiries, please contact Merchant Services on 1300 132 741, between 8:30am and 5pm AEST on weekdays,

If you currently use a dial terminal directly into your phone line, you will need to have this device reconfigured to connect through your internet modem when the NBN is rolled out to your area. If this option isn't viable, we can provide you with a new device (separate charges may apply).

For more information, please contact Merchant Services on 1300 132 741, between 8:30am and 5pm AEST on weekdays.

Taking payments online

Once your complete application has been approved, a welcome pack e-mail will be sent to you within 2 business days. This email will outline the integration and installation instructions.

The daily cut-off time is 11:45pm AEST. Any transactions processed after this time will be in the next day’s settlement.

You will be given access to the Bendigo Bank Payment Gateway Administration portal. This portal is accessed via the internet and can be used for a variety of administrative purposes such as reporting, transaction searches and refunds. Your welcome kit email and attachments contain information on how to access the Payment Gateway Administration Portal.

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS)

As your bank, we are committed to helping you protect both your business and your customers. Because your business processes payments from debit and credit cards there are a number of obligations you are required to meet.

These obligations are designed to protect cardholder information and help you manage the risks to your business posed by fraud and internal or external security breaches.

These mandatory obligations are known as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). They are set by the PCI Security Standards Council and apply to any organisation that stores, processes or transmits cardholder information and data.

All businesses, large and small, are required to protect card holder data in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards.

Exactly which Payment Card Industry Security Standards apply to you will depend on the size and nature of your business, the configuration of your payment systems, and the different service providers you work with.

The PCI Security Standard Council have created an informative and useful Quick reference guide to help you understand the PCI DSS and apply it to your payment card transaction environment.

Australian businesses are increasingly dealing with instances of payment card fraud.

This fraud poses an obvious threat to customers, who are inconvenienced and potentially out of pocket for significant amounts of money. For your business, insufficient risk mitigation practices can result in you being liable for the entire fraudulent amount.

By complying with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, your customers will trust that their card details are secure, and you will be actively managing potential financial and reputational risks to your business.

PCI DSS is the global data security adopted by the payment card brands for all entities that process, store or transmit cardholder data. It consists of common sense steps that mirror security best practices.

Goals PCI DSS requirements
Build and maintain a secure network
  • Install and maintain a firewall configuration to protect cardholder data
  • Do not use vendor-supplied defaults for system passwords and other security parameters
Protect cardholder data
  • Protect stored cardholder data
  • Encrypt transmission of cardholder data across open, public networks
Maintain a vulnerability management program
  • Use and regularly update anti-virus software or programs
  • Develop and maintain secure systems and applications
Implement strong access control measures
  • Restrict access to cardholder data by business need to know
  • Assign a unique ID to each person with computer access
  • Restrict physical access to cardholder data
Regularly monitor and test networks
  • Track and monitor all access to network resources and cardholder data
  • Regularly test security systems and processes
Maintain an Information Security Policy
  • Maintain a policy that addresses information security for all personnel
