Our Branch

A significant amount of work and public consultation has been undertaken in relation to the feasibility of establishing the Swansea and Bicheno Community Bank® branches of Bendigo Bank.

After initially campaigning for a Community Bank® branch in Swansea‚ members of this initial Steering Committee as well as a new group of interested Bicheno community members (and Coles Bay representatives) were briefed by Bendigo Bank on 20 July‚ 2006 in relation to the proposal to establish Community Bank® branches in both Swansea and Bicheno.

A new Steering Committee (comprising both existing and new members) was formed based on this proposal and the initial campaign was "re-launched" to accommodate the proposed establishment of Community Bank® Branches in both communities.

As the campaign progressed at a rapid rate‚ the committee engaged an independent consultant‚ Richmond Sinnott & Delahunty to conduct a feasibility study in relation to the proposal. The results of the feasibility study were presented to the committee at a meeting held on 23 January‚ 2007 and it was unanimously voted to proceed towards the establishment of the Swansea and Bicheno Community Bank® Branches.

Bicheno was the second site to open for Freycinet Coast Financial Services Ltd‚ the first being opened in Swansea in March 2008. The campaign to establish these branches was hard fought and strongly supported by the community. The Swansea and Bicheno Community Bank® Branches have opened up banking options for the wider Freycinet Coast region‚ both for the locals and the many tourists to the district.
