Highlights for climate and carbon
- The reinstatement of a Labor federal government will have implications for climate policy in agriculture affecting farmers. Required emissions reporting will be expanded to smaller companies in coming years, and there is potential market access could be affected if producers cannot provide emissions reports.
- The Murray Darling Basin Plan will be reviewed in the coming year. At this stage the Government is planning to buy back 450GL over the next four years, though that may change dependent on the results of the review.
- Electricity prices are set to rise further with estimated increased pricing to small businesses of between 3-8 per cent. The incentives to consider methods to improve on-farm energy efficiency and productivity will continue to gain pace.
