Bendigo Bank House

No family should face a health crisis alone

When a family member is seriously ill, the distance between home and hospital can feel impossible. Bendigo Bank House exists to close the gap. It’s one of the most tangible expressions of what it means to be the better big bank.

Three cities. Three facilities. One commitment: no family should face a health crisis alone.

When a loved one needs medical care far from home, the last thing a family should be worrying about is where to sleep. That’s the thinking behind Bendigo Bank House – and it’s one of the partnerships we’re most proud of.

Bendigo

Opened in 2018 in partnership with Bendigo Health and Exemplar Health, Bendigo Bank House provides 15 low-cost, apartment style accommodation suites right on the hospital grounds.

It was built for regional patients and their families – people travelling as far as Mildura, Deniliquin and beyond – who need to be close to Bendigo’s world-class medical services without shouldering an impossible financial burden.

In its first year alone, more than 2,100 guests called it home.

Geelong

The spirit of Bendigo Bank House found a new home in Geelong with the opening of McKellar Kids’ Rehab at Barwon Health in 2022.

Bendigo Bank and its partners contributed more than $650,000 to the Barwon Health Foundation to create a dedicated, state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility for children and young people recovering from traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, strokes and more.

Named Bendigo Bank House in recognition of this contribution, it stands as a symbol of what community can achieve when it works together.

Hobart

Bendigo Bank House Transition to Home at Royal Hobart Hospital is a little different – and just as important.

Available free of charge to any family of a baby or child who no longer needs an acute care bed but still requires an extended stay, the three one-bedroom suites offer a home-like environment with full access to the hospital’s medical team.

Bendigo Bank’s Tassie branches donated over $41,000 to furnish the units including books and artworks by Tassie locals, chosen intentionally to help young patients feel at home.
