An IT upgrade allowed Beaufort Primary School students access to a wide range of modern systems, programs and applications to support their learning. This included coding and online learning platforms that teach the skills needed in today’s world.
For students to get the most out of learning, the school needed them to use a suitable device – and implemented a “bring your own device” (BYOD) program.
The Parents and Friends group were concerned about placing extra financial burden on school families and the local community through the purchase of raffle tickets or making donations. Given rising cost of living pressure, they decided to scale back their fund raising activities.
Without funding, another five years of community fundraising would be needed to meet the costs associated with buying individual devices for students.
The Community Bank recognised the need for the students to have suitable tools for their education and provided a grant to fund 50 devices. The purchase alleviated some financial pressure on families by allowing them to keep finances for their household budgets.
“Providing devices through the school alleviates the financial burden for families of buying them individually. We couldn’t do this without the support of the Community Bank,” School Principal Tameeka Rush said.
The school is now able to provide one-to-one devices for all students across the school.
