Rebuilding community facilities

19 July 2024

The Black Summer bushfires decimated the Quaama Sports Ground.

This included facilities that were over 100 years old, including the rodeo arena. Historically the sports ground is a hub for the small community.

The community was able to attract funding for destroyed buildings and yards. But, ironically, they were unable to get funding for the toilet block. It was severely damaged, but not burnt down.

We provided $50,000 from the Community Enterprise Foundation NSW Bushfire Recovery Grants Program. This helped fund a new toilet and shower with disabled facilities.

This will allow the community to come together at the facility again. It will have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing.

Rebuilding the sports ground will help community recovery and future resilience. It will provide a landing point for helicopters in emergency situations, primarily firefighting.
