Bank switches off for Earth Hour
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank will turn off its lights for an hour on 28 March 2015 for Earth Hour.
All non-essential lighting will be turned off at the Bendigo Centre in Bendigo and at its headquarters at Docklands, Adelaide and Brisbane.
The Bank’s action will support its renewed commitment as the major Australian partner for the 2015 Earth Hour initiative.
Since launching in 2007, the symbolic hour has grown into the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment with more than 162 countries and 7000 communities participating worldwide.
The 2015 initiative will celebrate Australian food and farmers, with a focus around reminding the public of the need to tackle global warming for the sake of the country’s farming communities.
Managing director Mike Hirst said the initiative was one that resonated strongly with the bank.
"We believe that creating a strong Australia for the future means championing our farming communities – something we have done for many generations," Mr Hirst said.
The Bank will encourage its staff and customers to turn their lights out for one hour on March 28 at 8.30pm.
This year, the Bank extends its Earth Hour partnership to help produce Planet to Plate: The Earth Hour Cookbook, the first cookbook of its kind in the world.
Australia’s biggest culinary names have contributed to Planet to Plate including Margaret Fulton, Matt Preston, Neil Perry, Kylie Kwong, Shannon Bennett and Luke Mangan, with the book’s 52 recipes teamed with first-hand stories from Australian farmers highlighting the impact global warming is having on their farms and the nation’s availability of fresh, homegrown food.
Proceeds from the sale of the books will go to supporting Earth Hour’s work with schools, small businesses and community groups.
The cookbook will be available in select branches for $40. Alternatively they can be purchased online at earthhour.org.au cookbook for $49.95 including postage.
