Bendigo Bank launches energy-saving program
Regional Victorian’s looking to save money on their power bills and reduce their impact on the environment could benefit from a new energy saving program launched by Bendigo Bank’s Generation Green™ initiative today.
Switch to Save aims to replace energy-thirsty halogen down lights with Earth-friendly LED down lights in homes and businesses across regional Victoria.
Bendigo Bank has partnered with Energy Makeovers, an Australian company dedicated to assisting families with energy efficiency solutions, to deliver and install the LED down lights in participating households and businesses.
The free LED down lights will be installed by a local and fully-qualified electrician.
Bendigo Bank’s State Manager for Regional Victoria Tim Rodda said the simple switch could save households as much as $500 a year.
"There are also massive environmental benefits too," Mr Rodda said.
"For every 1,000 homes and businesses registered, which will see almost 30,000 down lights installed, we will be reducing greenhouse emissions by 17,000 tonnes.
"That’s the equivalent of taking 3,580 cars off the road for one year," he said.
In addition to saving money and the environment, Bendigo Bank is adding another initiative to the Switch to Save program.
"Our branches will distribute $1 for every halogen down light replaced in participating households and businesses to help support a neighbouring school undertake sustainable projects," Mr Rodda said.
"We hope this will not only provide an additional incentive to encourage community participation, but more importantly help to educate young people about the benefits of thinking green.

It takes less energy to power seven LEDs than it does to light one standard halogen down light.
A halogen globe lasts around 2,000 hours while an LED lasts 50,000 hours and generates 65% less heat than a halogen globe.
$1 for every down light replaced funds a local school’s sustainability project.
