Bendigo Bank to sponsor Bendigo Bombers

Bendigo Bank will be the major sponsor of the Bendigo Bombers VFL team.

The announcement was made today by Bendigo Bombers Chairman Geoff Bowyer and Bendigo Bank’s Chief General Manager Retail Banking, Greg Gillett.

The agreement was supported by Essendon Football Club, the Bendigo Bombers’ aligned AFL club.

Under the terms of the deal, Bendigo Bank will be the Bendigo Bombers’ major sponsor for the next two years and the Bombers’ guernsey will feature the bank’s logo on the front and back.

“Bendigo Bank has been a supporter of our home city’s push to establish a successful VFL club from day one of the old Diggers structure,” Mr Gillett said.

“We have boosted that support to major sponsor status because we believe this current arrangement between the Bendigo Bombers and the Essendon Football Club represents the best chance to achieve a sustainable presence for Bendigo in the second-best football competition in Australia.

“All parties recognise that this can only happen if the Bendigo community gets behind its own football team and as a representative business of that community we are happy to play a key role.”

Mr Bowyer said Bendigo Bank’s sponsorship represented a key plank in the Bendigo Bombers’ development.

“The reality today is that before you can become successful on the football field you have to be successful off it. Securing a major sponsor with the strength, reputation and branding of Bendigo Bank gives us an enormous head start in that area.

“The bank is synonymous with Bendigo and is renowned for its commitment to community and those are the ideals our football club aspires to. This is a great match of philosophies."

Mr Gillett said the willingness of Essendon Football Club to commit to the Bendigo community had played a key role in the bank’s decision.

“It is easy to say you are committed to making something work, but at the end of the day you are judged on your actions.

“Like all people in this district who have been touched by the Essendon club and the Bendigo Bombers in recent months, we have been enormously impressed by their willingness to contribute to community life.

“In our view, that willingness and contribution is the key to winning long-term public support for the Bendigo Bombers and if we can play a role in that we will.”
