Bendigo Bank's position on Australian jobs
Bendigo Bank’s General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Owen Davies, today issued the following statement in response to numerous inquiries about the bank’s stance on use of foreign call centres.
“I can confirm Bendigo Bank does not currently use overseas call centres or processing centres. Nor do we have plans to do so. It has not been considered and is not on our agenda to consider.
“Bendigo Bank is the only Australian bank headquartered in a regional city. We believe that being close to our customers and shareholders in this way gives us a good understanding of how Australians view the world … and we have spoken to many people who are opposed to the use of foreign call centres.
“Since 1995 – when we converted from Australia’s second-largest building society to become a bank – Bendigo Bank and its Community Bank companies have created more than 2000 jobs in Australia.
“Many of these have been in small country towns where every job is precious. We are very proud of this record, which reflects our core philosophy to help build strong, sustainable Australian communities. By so doing, we create stronger market places and increase the likelihood of local people supporting us and remaining loyal to our business.”
