Bendigo helping Australia's farmers

4 December 2002 |Media centre

Bendigo Bank has dedicated the month of December to the nation's farmers, dedicating $5 from every personal insurance policy written or upgraded this month to the Farmhand Appeal.

Bendigo Bank Insurance Manager Len Rodda said customers who increased their level of cover or who take out new insurance policies this month will be helping Australia's farmers, who are continuing to battle the effects of drought.

"This is one way in which Bendigo Bank, Australia's only regionally based bank, can assist those on the land," Mr Rodda said.

"The national Farmhand Appeal is a fantastic initiative aimed at helping farming families get through these difficult times and Bendigo Bank is pleased to be able to assist.

"Figures indicate that demand for Farmhand aid far outstrips the funds which are available, prompting Bendigo Bank to consider how it could assist those on the land."

The $5 donation will apply for policies taken out or upgraded in the month of December in relation to Bendigo House and Contents Insurance, Bendigo Boat Insurance, Bendigo Caravan Insurance and Bendigo Car Insurance.

The donation will be made for any new personal policy or policies upgraded during December.

Bendigo Bank has many branches, particularly Community Bank® branches, in drought stricken towns throughout Australia and has a 50/50 partnership in Elders Rural Bank, focussed at providing banking products and services to primary producers.

"Obviously, branch staff are dealing with many of those farmers affected by the drought on a case by case basis," Mr Rodda said.

"However, the Farmhand Appeal gives the bank an opportunity to assist those farmers whose survival relies on Mother Nature."

Assisting regional and rural Australia plays an important role in Bendigo Bank's sustainable communities strategy.

Initiatives such as Community Bank®, Community Telco Australia and Regional Development Fund are all focussed on assisting communities, particularly those in rural Australia, to help themselves.
