Cyclone Yasi Appeal launched
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s philanthropic arm, Community Enterprise Foundation™ has launched the Cyclone Yasi Appeal.
On the Wednesday 2 February 2011, Cyclone Yasi caused extensive damage to communities across Far North Queensland.
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Queensland State Manager, Noel Jessup said the bank was pleased to be able to launch the appeal to assist communities affected by the destructive cyclone.
“Many communities have been shocked by the impact of the cyclone and the widespread damage that has occurred,” Mr Jessup said.
“Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is proud to be able to assist the community by launching the Cyclone Yasi Appeal and we are calling for public donations to help support those who have been affected.”
Funds raised by the Cyclone Yasi Appeal will help fund relief, recovery and reconstruction projects in communities affected by the cyclone.
Babinda Community Bank® Branch Chair, Desley Vella, said the foundation provided significant assistance to the Babinda community in the aftermath of Cyclone Larry.
“In 2006, almost 80 per cent of our community was damaged by Cyclone Larry,” Ms Vella said.
“Recovering from a natural disaster is a long process but with the compassion shown by everyday Australians who donated to that appeal, our community has been able to get back on its feet.
“I’d like to encourage everyone to dig deep to make sure communities devastated by Cyclone Yasi can begin to rebuild and recover.”
Donations to the Cyclone Yasi Appeal can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch or online at www.bendigobank.com.au/foundation/yasi. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
