Donations returned to flood affected communities

21 January 2011 |Media centre

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s philanthropic arm, Community Enterprise Foundation™ has begun distributing funds from its Queensland Flood Appeal to not-for-profit organisations assisting with the relief and recovery effort.

Community Enterprise Foundation™ Chief Executive Officer Callum Wright said, funds raised by the appeal would be administered by the foundation and distributed to charitable organisations and projects in need of immediate support.

“The foundation is working closely with flood-affected communities across the state to identify areas of need,” Mr Wright said.

“Donors to our appeal would want immediate needs to be addressed as quickly as possible and we’re pleased to start this process now.

“At this stage, the foundation has gifted funds to four organisations providing significant support to communities in the process of recovering from flood.

“We are humbled by the generosity of all of our donors and would like to thank them for their generous contributions.”

The following organisations have received funds from the appeal;

  • Lifeline Community Care Capricornia - to support lifeline’s flood relief effort.
  • Foodbank Queensland - to distribute food to relief agencies and flood-affected residents across Queensland.
  • 4 Walls - to secure housing for flood-affected residents.
  • Salvation Army - to support the Salvos’ work in relief centres.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank’s Queensland State Manager, Noel Jessup, said the bank was committed to helping communities recover.

“Many communities have been shocked by the impact of the floods and the widespread damage that has occurred,” Mr Jessup said.

“We know full recovery will be a slow process and that the funding announced today is just a first step.

“The will continue working with communities as rebuilding priorities are set and I’d like encourage people to continue to show their support by making a donation.”

Donations to the Queensland Flood Appeal can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch or online at www.bendigobank.com.au/foundation. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
