Earth Hour 2014: Bendigo Bank announced as major sponsor

14 March 2014 |Media centre

Earth Hour is the moment that focuses the nation’s attention on climate change.   It’s the single largest mass participation event of its kind in the world. Think about it - that's amazing!

But Earth Hour only fulfils its potential if we deepen the level of participation, and build a real movement focussed on sensible change.

Dermot O’Gorman, Chief Executive Officer, WWF-Australia said:
"We're delighted that Bendigo Bank is such an important part of Earth Hour this year."

Bendigo Bank will be encouraging staff and customers to take part in Earth Hour on Saturday March 29 at 8.30pm.   This year, Earth Hour plans to use its massive participation and reach to focus Australia's attention on what climate change is doing to the Great Barrier Reef.

John Billington, Executive, Bendigo Wealth said: "Bendigo Bank has proudly supported Earth Hour since it went global in 2008 so we’re excited to take the next step in this long-running relationship by becoming the major sponsor of Earth Hour in 2014.

“At Bendigo Bank, we know success is bigger than profit margins and pay days. It’s about creating strong and sustainable communities for the future. We’re always working to reduce our impact on the environment, and we help others do the same through our innovative Generation Green™ home loans, personal loans and community engagement initiatives.

“Join our Bank and together we can make a difference”, Mr Billington concluded.

Anna Rose, Earth Hour Campaign Manager said: "The Earth Hour team is so excited to be working with Bendigo Bank as our major sponsor for Earth Hour 2014. Thanks to Bendigo, we've been able to reach millions of Australians to remind them to turn off their lights to make a stand for our Great Barrier Reef on Saturday 29th March."

To kick things off on the night:  Earth Hour organisers have commissioned a special Earth Hour documentary.  This world premiere documentary will screen on Channel Ten at 4:30pm on March 29th 2014.   The documentary will launch at screenings around the country at Earth Hour events and be featured on http://www.smh.com.au/tv/

Earth Hour supporters are expected to host more than 1000 events all over the country – inviting their friends, neighbours and extended families over to watch the documentary and  panel discussion before having the traditional "lights out" candle-lit dinner or BBQ and continuing the conversation themselves.
