Ray Street Children’s Centre in Castlemaine has won $10,000 thanks to the Generation Green™ Green Your Business competition.

Ray Street Children’s Centre employee, Lisa Tunn, said the children’s centre would use the money to improve its green practices and increase the children’s environmental awareness.

“The children are all very excited to learn about how they can help save energy and help the environment,” Ms Tunn said.

“We are eager to reduce our impact on the environment and we are currently deciding what will be the most effective way to green our business.”

Bendigo Bank’s Senior Manager Generation Green™, Trudy Ellery, said the bank, in partnership with the Victorian State Government and the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry were keen to reward businesses that embraced sustainable business habits.

“The Green Your Business competition gave Victorian business owners the chance to win $10,000 simply by visiting the Generation Green™ website and answering a survey,” Ms Ellery said.

More than 850 Victorian business owners entered the competition and almost 20,000 people visited the Generation Green™ website during the competition month of May.

Ms Ellery said VECCI would be conducting a free sustainability assessment for the childcare centre to help the children’s centre decide how to invest their $10,000 grant.

“Representatives from Central Victoria Solar City and Mount Alexander Sustainability Group will also meet with the children’s centre to provide them with information about the local environmentally friendly investment options available.”
