National Bushfire Disaster Appeal launched

3 January 2020 |Appeals

Bendigo Bank has launched a national Bushfire Disaster Appeal in partnership with The Salvation Army to help those devastated by bushfires across Australia. Donations can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch or online.

The Appeal - conducted by Bendigo Bank’s charitable arm, Community Enterprise Foundation - will initially focus on raising funds for communities seriously affected by the fires in East Gippsland, North-East Victoria, South Eastern New South Wales and the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.

However, all fire impacted communities will be considered in this Appeal, including those in late 2019 and those that could still be impacted in coming weeks.

In Victoria, through Bendigo Bank’s partnership with Emergency Management Victoria (EMV), the Victorian State Government is directing donations to this Appeal to raise funds for those communities directly impacted by bushfires across the state.

One hundred percent of funds donated to the Bushfire Disaster Appeal will be directed to communities affected across the country.

Alexandra Gartmann, Bendigo Bank Corporate Affairs Executive, said the Appeal provides all Australians with another formal option through which they can directly support and assist adversely affected communities across the country.

“The national Bushfire Disaster Appeal will help raise funds for all those communities directly impacted by the devastating bushfires which have ravaged large swathes of the country in recent weeks.

“Funds raised in each state will be directed to support communities impacted in that particular state. We will ensure decisions are informed by local communities on how to best utilise funds raised, for the longer-term recovery and rebuild.

“The financial support generated by this Bushfire Disaster Appeal will be just the first step in a long road to recovery for these communities, and we stand ready to support and assist those affected in the weeks, months and years to come. Funds are just one ingredient for recovery, but an essential one,” Ms Gartmann said.

How to donate now:
People wishing to support these communities are encouraged to provide monetary donations directly to the Bushfire Disaster Appeal as monetary donations are quicker, more effective and logistically provide far more flexibility than donations of material items or pre-loved goods.

All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

The National Bushfire Disaster Appeal and state-based Bushfire Disaster Appeals are management accounts of Community Enterprise Foundation™ ABN 69 694 230 518, The Bendigo Centre, PO Box 480, Bendigo, Vic 3552. The Foundation will make distributions by way of grants, following receipt of applications from organisations endorsed with an item 1 Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR)
