National network comes together to support Nepal
Bendigo Bank staff nationwide have raised more than $14,000 to support Oxfam Australia's work following the recent major earthquakes in Nepal.
In casual clothes day called 'Casual for a Cause Day', staff traded their uniforms and corporate attire for casual clothes and donated to help provide aid relief via the Bank's long-time partner, Oxfam Australia.
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank's philanthropic arm, Community Enterprise Foundation™ has also launched an appeal with Oxfam Australia to raise funds following the country's second major earthquake.
Executive Retail Dennis Bice said the Bank was committed to supporting communities, locally and across the globe.
"Our staff nationwide have kick started this support with a $14,000 donation, and we're urging everyday Australians to join us in supporting the people of Nepal by making a donation at a Bendigo Bank branch," Mr Bice said.
"Even the smallest donation can make a difference in the lives of affected families and their communities."
"It's going to take a time for communities restore the place they call home, and we're committed to providing financial support through our partners to help their immediate and long-term needs."
Oxfam Australia Chief Executive, Dr Helen Szoke, said the situation in Nepal is 'unprecedented'.
Dr Szoke said there is much work to be done for the people of Nepal to rebuild community infrastructure and restore wellbeing.
"The emergency response in Nepal is not going to take just weeks, or just months, it is going to take years. In the initial phase of this response we are urgently working to get clean water, shelter and sanitation to those affected," she said.
"Once we move out of the first phase of recovery we'll then be looking at long term rebuilding and ways maximize preparedness for another earthquake."
"The length of this response due to the magnitude of this disaster means that long term financial support is vital."
"Oxfam recognises the great work of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank's staff, customers and communities in launching their appeal to support the people of Nepal in this time of need."
"It's vital for the people of Nepal that they aren't forgotten in the coming months and years, so please donate as much or as little as you can, because every little bit helps."
Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch.
