South West Bushfire appeal hits $200,000

26 May 2018 |Appeals

More than $200,000 has been donated to the South West bushfires relief effort following the launch of the appeal in March, including $50,000 from Bendigo Bank’s Community Bank® network and $60,000 from District 9780 Rotary Clubs.

The bushfire appeal is being supported by Cobden & Districts Community Bank® in partnership with Cobden District Community Health Services.

Cobden & Districts Community Bank® Branch Chair, James Green, said the Appeal has started well with tremendous support from across Australia.

"Our thoughts are with those in our community and other communities right across the South West of the state that have been impacted by the fires,” he said.

"Everyone is keen to do what they can and one of the best ways we can help is by digging deep and donating."

As the clean-up from the fires continues, the Relief Appeal Advisory Committee is working closely with local shires, State Government, and community organisations to develop a clear process which will ensure support to the community is focused on areas not funded from other sources.

"The advisory committee is focused on ensuring that distributions are fair, equitable and transparent with a preferred focus on community-based outcomes.

"We’ll take our time to ensure we get the best possible outcome with the donated funds.

Mr Green has also urged any Bendigo Bank customers hit by the fires to give the Cobden branch a call.

"There are various resources we can access, and the branch team are here to help. Cobden Branch Manager, Lauren Hester, can be contacted on 03 5595 1191.

"We encourage people wishing to contribute to the relief effort.

"Donations over $2 are tax deductible and can also be made by phoning 1300 304 541," Mr Green concluded.

The fund is administered by Bendigo Bank’s philanthropic arm, Community Enterprise Foundation™. Funds raised will help the communities impacted by the disaster rebuild and recover.

South West Victorian fire Appeal is a management account of the Community Enterprise Foundation™ ABN 69 694 230 518, PO Box 480, Bendigo Vic 3552. Funds raised from this appeal will be disbursed as grants and gifts to eligible charitable organisations to assist with relief, recovery and reconstruction projects for communities in the fire effected areas of South West Victoria.
