Confirmation of Payee is an industry-wide service that provides an additional layer of protection for Australian consumers and businesses, further strengthening the ability of Bendigo Bank’s customers to screen payees that began with Payee Check in November 2024.
When making a first-time payment to a BSB and account number, or editing a payee’s BSB and account number, Confirmation of Payee checks the bank account details entered by the payer with the account details held by the intended recipient’s bank and displays a match. The payer can then make an
informed decision about what to do next – pay, check the details again or choose not to proceed with the payment altogether.
Confirmation of Payee can help safeguard people and businesses from fraud, scams and mistaken payments, and help protect their money by providing confidence that the details entered match the details held by the recipient’s bank.
From today, Confirmation of Payee delivers Bendigo Bank another vital tool to combat fraud and scams, providing continued protection for the Bank’s 2.9 million customers, and building on the Bank's existing scams and fraud preventative measures.
Bendigo Bank’s holistic approach to scam prevention stopped $58 million of potential fraud and scam payments – the equivalent of $161,000 per day – in FY26.
Bendigo Bank customers don’t need to do anything to benefit from this additional security, which is already safeguarding their transfers.
