Bendigo Bank deepens commitment to reconciliation with new Innovate RAP

26 May 2026
Bendigo Bank has launched its second Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), the Innovate RAP 2026-2028, marking the next significant step in its journey to support national reconciliation and create a more equitable future for First Nations peoples.

Building on the foundations and key learnings from its initial Reflect RAP, launched in 2023, the Innovate RAP outlines the Bank’s renewed and strengthened commitment to embedding reconciliation throughout its business and working in partnership with First Nations peoples and communities to elevate voices and support meaningful, community-led change.

Bendigo Bank Chief Executive Officer, Richard Fennell, said the new plan is a direct result of the insights gained over the past three years and deepens the Bank’s focus on creating tangible outcomes.

"Our Reflect RAP was a critical first step, centred on listening and learning. We took the time to understand where we could make the most meaningful difference, such as building our First Nations employee network Mob@BEN and strengthening our relationships with First Nations communities and leaders,” Mr Fennell said.

"Our Innovate RAP is the next iteration of our commitment. It moves us from reflection to action, outlining clear and ambitious targets to build stronger cultural competency across our organisation.

“We understand our role extends beyond financial services, to using our unique community-led approach to foster economic empowerment and create genuine partnerships through sustainable actions like career pathways and supply chain improvements,” Mr Fennell added.

Bendigo Bank’s Innovate RAP is focused on advancing reconciliation by building authentic relationships, embedding respect, and creating opportunities in partnership with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Key initiatives to achieve this include consulting with First Nations advisors on Bank policies, incorporating cultural art and design into branches and offices, and increasing the integration of First Nations-owned businesses into the Bank’s supply chain.

The Plan will also have a strong focus on improving employment outcomes at the Bank by increasing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander recruitment, retention and professional development.

The Bank's RAP Working Group and its First Nations Employee Network, established during the Reflect RAP, will continue to play a central role in guiding the implementation and governance of these new commitments. "We are committed to being a better, more inclusive bank for all Australians. Our Innovate RAP is an important roadmap for the next stage of our journey, and we look forward to working alongside our community partners to deliver on its promise,” Mr Fennell concluded.
