The decision to approach the Bendigo Bank in order to open a Community Bank® in Caloundra was made around a 'real kitchen table'‚ by 'real people'. Members of the community gathered together with Bendigo Bank representatives on the 18 August 2004 for the first official Community Bank® meeting.
As a result of the above meeting the Steering Committee was formed and the journey began. Between August and December 2004 a number of pledges of support were received. On 9 May 2005 a public meeting was held to present community banking to Caloundra residents and businesses.
Over a period of 26 months public information and consultation continued by Steering Committee members and supportive people of the Caloundra Community. As a result a feasibility study was conducted in September 2006 and our pledges had increased to 289 for a total amount of $856‚720.
The results of the feasibility study were presented to the Steering Committee at a meeting held on 26 October 2006 and it was unanimously agreed to proceed towards the establishment of the Caloundra Community Bank® Branch.
