Toora is a town‚ like many small rural towns in Victoria‚ who have an increasing loss of service provision at a local level.
We looked towards opening Toora & District Community Bank® branch when a major bank advised Toora their branch would become an agency. The bank advised that rural people should no longer expect to have a social relationship with their bank.
We completed a feasibility study which indicated we did have a business. It wasn't a flash result‚ but it was a business.
As Community Bank® branches are managed by a public locally owned company, Promontory District Finance Group (PDFG) was established.
PDFG is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who come from all walks of life. The directors oversee the running of the company and make decisions about re-investing the profits of the business into community initiatives.
Our community once again believes in itself.
Toora & District Community Bank® branch was opened in January 1999 and we look to celebrate its 19th birthday early next year.
PDFG went on to open the Foster branch in Oct 2007 and, thanks to our loyal customers, more than $1,010,515 has been invested back into the local community by way of grants, sponsorships, scholarships & donations.
Our depositors are protected under the Australian Government’s Financial Claims Scheme (FCS) which provides protection and quick access to deposits made with a bank, building society or credit union in the unlikely event that one of these institutions fails. Find out more here.
