Home Sweet 2017
Community Sector Banking sponsored the event along with Link Housing and the aim was simple – to raise money to be used by The Burdekin Association to support homeless youth.
The fundraising aim was $100,000 and that target was well and truly exceeded.
Board directors from Freshwater Community Bank® Branch participated in the event and spent the night at Freshwater Surf Lifesaving Club.
The Burdekin Association has been providing housing, support and hope to homeless children and young people for the past 30 years and their ‘success’ rates are astonishing.
During this time, more than 90 per cent of the children and young people the association has engaged with have gone on to complete schooling, gain employment and go on to achieve a life free from disadvantage.
It’s estimated that more than 200 young people on the northern beaches are without a permanent home.
They’re not necessarily visibly homeless – they’re sleeping on the beach, on a friend’s couch or floor and in cars.
As a Community Bank® branch we’re humbled by the experience to spend a night not in the comfort of our beds and, at the same time, raise money to help others.
