Helping hand for local charities

Four local charities have received timely goodwill donations to start the year. Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, KYDS Youth Development Service, Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury and St Lucy’s School were each presented with cheques for $15,000 this week by Dean Castell, manager of the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank branches of the Bendigo Bank.

The grants were raised through the sale of a Ku-ring-gai Edition of Monopoly, specially produced as a fundraising initiative to support charities in the North Shore.

The limited Ku-ring-gai Edition of the famous boardgame sold out in January. The project raised $84,227, all of which will be channelled back to charitable organisations working within the North Shore community.

With the bulk of the funds donated this week, and local schools receiving donations totalling $1,440, the Turramurra and Lindfield Community Bank® branches have today launched the aptly named Community Chest Grants Program to allocate the remaining funds to ten additional organisations. Applications for the $2,000 Community Chest Grants are open to eligible charities from March 1 to March 31.

The successful ten applicants will be announced on April 15. These same organisations will then go in the running to benefit from a further Community Choice grant where members of the community can vote online between April 16 to April 30 for their favoured charity to receive an additional $2,787. All grant recipients will be presented with their donations in mid-May.  For more information visit:
