The skills to pay the bills

Jump Start gives school leavers a the skills they need to make the change from school to the next phase of their life. Held at Coomealla High School, Students learned important life skills that aren’t taught in the classroom.

Skills such as how to change a car tyre, or how to rent a property, and even what employers look for when it comes to a job interview. The event had live music and included workshops and demonstrations on:

* how to change a tyre and Oil
* Self defense
* cooking demo
* resumes
* interview techniques and lots more

A highlight this year was a workshop by Stylist, Anika Walker from Your Look. Anika’s innovative ‘Your Style Revolution’ is a unique journey that step-by-step educates, develops & guides the students on their own style revolution. The workshop helped students explore a range of interview appropriate looks from smart casual to corporate.

Jump Start was created by the Wentworth & District Community Bank® Junior Board Observers. Now in it's third year, the event has partnered with Headspace Mildura.

Larni Baird Manager of Headspace Mildura said our point of difference is we are not just concentrating on tertiary qualification after leaving school but the life skills that are needed to move forward after high school.

Wentworth & District Community Bank® Junior Board Observers Monique Mitchell & Colby Wade both said that being part of the Jump Start committee has been a great experience giving them a real insight into how to put together an event like this and how sitting on a committee works.
