The world of on the go payments is yours with Bendigo Bank powered by Tyro

16 August 2023 | 6 min read

No matter what size or type of business you operate, there’s one thing every business has in common: taking payments.

Australians prefer the convenience of making electronic payments. The latest Reserve Bank of Australia research shows about 75 percent of transactions in 2022 used debit and credit cards, and 95 percent of these purchases used contactless payments.

But what if your business needs the flexibility to take payments in a way that traditional EFTPOS can offer?

Welcome to the world of mobile payment technology – user friendly, convenient and safe ways to take payments on the go.

What is on-the-go technology and how will it benefit me?

There are two, new on-the-go payment technologies offered by Bendigo Bank and powered by Tyro; Tap to Pay on iPhone with the Tyro BYO App1 and the Go EFTPOS reader.

These technologies allow businesses to take payment for services and products

They are seamless and secure payment solutions for any business that can be used on their own or paired with traditional EFTPOS facilities as a complete payments solution. This is ideal for businesses that have a fixed and a popup shopfront, like a weekend market or fair stall.

On-the-go technology can be used at the same time as EFTPOS machines allowing you to queue bust during peak times.

But they are real game changers for microbusinesses or sole traders who need cost-effective, flexible solutions to take payments on-the-go, with little or no additional hardware required.

Rather than spending downtime generating invoices and waiting weeks for payment, or sharing business account details, business operators like tradespeople or personal trainers can take credit and debit card payments at the same time their product or service is being delivered.

On-the-go payment technologies also make running business simpler and easier with next day settlements3, and insight and data tracking technologies to help manage cash flow.

Which option is right for me?

The right option for you will depend on the type of business you run and the flexibility you need.

Here’s what you need to know;

Tap to Pay on iPhone with the Tyro BYO App

Tap to Pay on iPhone with the Tyro BYO App is a user-friendly and convenient payment solution. You can accept all types of in-person, contactless payments on your iPhone. This includes everything from physical debit and credit cards to Apple Pay and other digital wallets.

The best part? No extra terminals or hardware are needed. You can forget the hassle with charging hardware or the Bluetooth wireless connection. All you need to do is enter the transaction amount in the Tyro BYO App and prompt the customer to tap their card or device on your iPhone.1

Tap to Pay on iPhone and the Tyro BYO App uses iPhone features for data safety so it’s easy, secure and private to use, with no customer data stored.2 Payments are made easily using Near Field Communication (NFC). This is the technology that allows two devices to communicate wirelessly when they're close together.1

You can track insights and data to the minute, and there are no setup or hardware fees. You’ll only pay a 1.4% fee per transaction (inc GST).5

Go EFTPOS reader

Go EFTPOS is a portable, compact and light EFTPOS reader that fits comfortably in your pocket. Simply pair it with your smart device or tablet and it’s ready to use.

The Go EFTPOS reader is compatible with Apple and Android smart devices or tablets and designed to be wireless, so it’s easy to set up and takes payments in moments. All you need to do is open the Tyro Go App, enter the amount and take the payment. You can also place it on your countertop for a sleek payment solution in your store, and use it during busy periods in addition to other payment facilities.

Go EFTPOS accepts most contactless payments, credit card, EFTPOS and digital wallets and integrates with your existing point-of-sale system. You can track transaction insights and data from the Tyro Go App and Tyro App and send branded digital receipts by email to your customers – no paper receipts necessary.

There’s no monthly charge, only a one-off cost of $59.95 (inc. GST) to buy the reader, and a 1.4% fee per transaction (inc. GST).5

What about EFTPOS machines?

CounterTop EFTPOS machines and Mobile EFTPOS machines are ideal for businesses with a bricks and mortar store that want a fast payment solution for high volume sales.

You can switch between CounterTop and Mobile EFTPOS machines, or add an on-the-go payment solution to your toolkit.  You’ll also have 24/7 local support and excellent reporting functions, including reconciliation, report downloads and transaction tracking.

Both are popular choices for hospitality, services, health and retail, industries that receive high volume transactions and need fast, cost-effective and customised payment solutions.

With the capability to integrate with over 330 Point of Sale and Practice Management System software providers, these machines are a great option for businesses with more complex requirements.4 Integrations help businesses streamline their operations by unlocking a range of industry specific features.

They accept contactless payments via credit cards, EFTPOS and digital wallets and integrate with point of sale and payment management services to offer streamlined payment solutions.

CounterTop and Mobile EFTPOS machines cost $29 per month (inc. GST) for the machine rental, and 1.4% credit card surcharge per transaction (inc. GST).5
