Guy spoke and Coolum businesses listened

19 May 2019 |Community news

Coolum Business and Tourism welcomed a special guest speaker to their monthly networking night on 15 May.

Guy Hamilton is a coast local and the author of the book, 10 Foundations of Business Success. He addressed the room filled with local business owners at Coolum Beach Surf Club keen to learn more about their customers.

The thrust of Guy's talk was that really successful businesses truly understand their customers and regularly revalidate what they value and why. He noted in the digital world customer interactions become impersonal and commoditised. Businesses who build strong engagement with their customers typically outperform those who do not.

His message for the audience was simple; "Walk in your customers’ shoes and keep walking in them and take the time to truly understand their experience of buying your products and services”, Guy said.

Guy’s book talks about keeping things simple and getting the basics right and each member was delighted to head home with a copy of his book to read though things in more detail.

Known as a proven industry leader in financial services, Guy has held a range of board, CEO, and Senior Executive Management roles in the banking industry. He is currently a director on the board of Sunshine Coast Community Financial Services Ltd, who manage the Cooroy, Marcoola, Tewantin Noosa and Pomona Community Bank® branches of Bendigo Bank.

During a 35-year career with HSBC Group he lived and worked in eight countries including Australia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East and has held direct business responsibilities for activities across 15 countries.

Guy is a regular guest lecturer on the Executive MBA program run by the Graduate Business School of Queensland University of Technology and continues to mentor a number of businesses.
