Hall upgrades strengthen community

10 February 2022

Corryong and District Memorial Public Hall committee has relished the opportunity to make much needed upgrades to the carpark adjoining their ever-important RSL.

The much maligned, but frequently used, carpark has been in need of attention since construction of the facilities in 1956.

The carpark was an important evacuation point during the devastating Black Summer bushfires. It then became clear it was integral to the community and its safety.

Thanks to the support of a $182,000 grant from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, these critical upgrades could begin.

Setbacks such as weather, changing landscape of the pandemic, and loss of volunteers, put them under unique pressures. Concrete parking area, installing security lighting and cameras, and improved drainage needed completing.

But you can't hold down this hall committee! With support from local trades they achieved an outcome even greater than anticipated.

The carpark is now safe and accessible for all, functional in all conditions and at all times of the day. It is future-proofed as an evacuation point should devastation occur again.

The project has been integral in the recovery of the community following the bushfires. It's proven to lift the spirits and strengthen resilience of the community.

Remarkable is the only word to describe the change these upgrades have made on residents and the community alike.
