Our Board

John Waters
John joined the Board in December 2014. John is a lifelong resident of Upwey, who currently has his own consulting business, operating in the compliance and risk management spheres within the finance industry. John has had over 40 years' experience in the banking and finance industry with two major banking institutions. John's most recent positions have been in the Global risk management and compliance areas, specifically in the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Bribery and Corruption.Within the local community John is a past President of the Upwey Tecoma Football Club, the Upwey Tecoma Junior Football Club and the Belgrave Bandits Basketball Club (now the Mountain Tigers). John is a Life Member of the two football clubs as well as the Upwey Tecoma Cricket Club.
John was formally appointed as Chairman of Dandenong Ranges Community Finance Ltd on 31 March 2016.

Deputy Chairman:
Deb Weber
Deb joined our Board in June 2014.  Deb is a mother of two and grandmother of three.  Deb is a registered tax agent, has SMSF compliance, has a graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting and a Bachelor of Economics from Monash.  Deb is a member fire fighter of the Kalorama & Mt Dandenong Fire Brigade.

Company Secretary - Non-Director:
Naren Popat
Naren was appointed to the position of Company Secretary in April 2013.  Naren replaced our long time Company Secretary/Treasurer Devendra Desai and comes to the position with an extensive background of accounting experience.  Naren is one of the principals of the firm Apex Accounting Solutions (formally Desai Popat & Associates) who have managed our Company finances and provided financial reporting since 1999.

Karel Coxhill
Karel is a well-known local resident who has resided in Upwey for many years.  He is the Principal of the J. McNally /The Professionals Estate Agency in Tecoma and was a former local Councillor and member of numerous local organisations.

John Faull
John is a local businessman who has experience in a range of private businesses, including a plant nursery and aged accommodation.  John lives and works in Olinda and has been part of that community for many years.  John is looking forward to being part of the decision making process and helping the community in which he lives, gain access to better banking facilities.

Shane Miller
Shane joined the Board in late 2012.  Shane lives in Emerald with his wife and two children and has been an active member of that community since 1984.
Shane owns and operates his own security business providing alarm, camera and response services to local businesses and Government departments.  Shane is a member of the Clematis Fire Brigade

Les Stevenson
Les joined the Board in December 2015. He has lived in Belgrave South for 30 years and was involved with the Belgrave Heights Tennis Club and Belgrave South Football Club as a member in his earlier years. Les retired from his successful accounting practice in August 2013, after 22 years in Belgrave and has worked part-time for the new owners over recent years.
As a member of Berwick Montuna Golf Club, Les spends a couple of days a week on the fairways and greens of this local course.
Les is married to Rhonda and has three adult children, who all attended local schools and participated locally in netball, basketball, football, tennis, volley ball clubs as junior/seniors in the area.
Les is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and his financial and small to medium business background will hold him in good stead when advising and reviewing the bank's financial documents and affairs.

Jacqui Buckland
Jacqui has spent 25 years working within the hospitality, events, wine and tourism sectors. Having found a passion for community work whilst on maternity leave, Jacqui has been an active volunteer with a range of not-for-profit groups for many years.  Jacqui is currently heavily involved with Project Upwey Inc, coordinating the Grassroots Market and The Foothills Festival.

Helena Fern
Helena is a local resident in Belgrave and joined the Board in 2018. She holds a position at Monash University leading the entrepreneurship and startup hub, the Generator, which supports the creation and growth of early stage start-ups and technology ventures. She has a background in marketing and has worked in corporate insurance, higher education and sustainability for the past 14 years. Helena is also the co-owner of local Upwey bar, The Fat Goat. Helena brings to the Board a perspective of how a Community Bank can better attract and serve the growing population of young people and families moving to the hills.
