The Japan Festival has a new home thanks to the swell of support from the Caloundra community.
Amongst those supporters is our Caloundra Community Bank® branch which helps fund the event.
Branch Manager, Ms. Pip Fawcett, said the branch embraced cultural diversity. “We are all about promoting inclusiveness and lucky enough to have a really strong Japanese community here in Caloundra that we can support and celebrate,” Ms Fawett said.
Last year’s event was massive, with a big demand for the food and other activities from people. This year it's time for a bigger venue to host the numbers.
Japan Festival 2017 will be held Sunday 13 August from 9 – 1pm at the Currimundi Primary School, 17 Buderim Street Currimundi. Entry is free and there’s over 2,500 in prizes to be won.
The program includes:
9.00am Opening Taiko drumming
9.30am Aikido demo
10.00am Salmon fillet demo
10.30am Japanese Dancing – Part 1 (Bon Dancing)
Japanese Cultural workshops
11.30am Japanese Dancing – Part 2 (Bon Dancing)
12.00pm Sukiyaki Song chorus

Japan Festival organiser, and head of the Happy Community Network Inc, Mr Susumu Genta Tsukimori, said last year’s event welcomed over 1,000 visitors who came to enjoy the Japanese culture, food, dancing and shopping. “Over $6,000 was raised from the day which went towards the ‘Happy Community’ wish list which included helping the Kumamoto earthquake victims. We managed to send trainers from our Australian ‘Friends Program’ to train adult earthquake survivors so they could help hundreds of children deal with trauma. This year we're looking forward to raising even more funds,” said Mr Tsukimori.
Show your support by coming along for a taste of Japan Sunday 13 August from 9 – 1pm at Currimundi Primary School. All donations and volunteers are welcome.
