Our Board of Directors

We're in good hands with new Chair at Community Bank

Many of us may know Jan Head through her extensive community work around the district over the years. Working on the Community Company Board for the last 9 years as a volunteer Director, Jan is now the new Chair. The Board grateful to have Jan in this role and knows that ‘we’re in good hands’ as Jan brings a wealth of experience and skills to this position.

Jan has extensive experience working with many community groups and the private sector. Jan also comes with a background in the Finance Industry (8 years with CBA), worked in the hospitality Industry. Plus Woolworths where she had many roles including staff training, management.

Having moved from East Bentleigh, after spending many weekends “escaping to the country as weekenders”. Jan and husband Phil, finally made Mirboo North their permanent home in 2006. , Jan took up a job in the Mirboo North IGA supermarket until her retirement. But, retirement did not sit well with Jan so she accepted a part time position in the Mirboo North Newsagency where she worked until it closed in 2020.

Over the years Jan always found time for community service, Primary School and Secondary College committees. Her community work went on to include the local Catholic Church, Friends of the Library and Gippsland Farmer Relief .
You may be starting to wonder if Jan ever finds time for some relaxation! Well, Jan loves nothing better than curling up with a good book or listening to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra when time permits. Gardening is one of Jan’s favourite hobbies and playing golf is another way she unwinds.

When asked what drew her to accepting a position on the Board, Jan replied, “the underlying design of the Community Bank model is to give back to the community. In fact up to 80% of profits get contributed back to the community through sponsorships, grants and scholarships. As the Chair of the Board and the Grants Committee it is a real pleasure to see that over $1.3 million contributed since the branch’s start.”

Strzelecki Ranges Community Enterprises Ltd are grateful for the knowledge and expertise Jan brings to the Board, in particular the great relationship between our staff and Directors. Jan’s outstanding contribution underscores our motto – ‘Making good things happen in our community’.
