Managing your insurance policy

Remember to review your policy regularly. It helps to do a few things at renewal time that could help reduce costs and manage your insurance policy.
Right level of cover

Make sure that you select the right cover to suit your needs and budget from
the different levels of cover offered. You can choose from comprehensive, third-party fire and theft & third-party property damage.

Payment frequency

There's no extra charge if you pay fortnightly or monthly. Adjusting your payment frequency to suit you could make it easier to manage your finances.

I cannot thank you enough for protecting me!

I've been under insured for years. I believed because I'm a careful driver I really didn't need comprehensive cover. Deb talked to me about why quality cover matters, I thought about it and decided to take it out. Fast forward 12months and I've recently been involved in an accident, my car is a write-off. I'm just so grateful to Deb because I'd be in a very different position now if I didn't have this cover. The CGU claims experience was really good too so again, thank you!

FAQs

It’s important to choose the right car insurance policy. Our Frequently Asked Questions will help you.

This depends on the policy you’ve chosen. With our Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy, your car is covered no matter who’s behind the wheel (some exclusions apply).

With our Nominated Driver policies, drivers under 25 years of age aren’t covered (except for learner drivers accompanied by a fully licensed driver aged 25 years or more). Anyone that’s not listed on your policy will incur a higher excess in the event of a claim. Your Product Disclosure Statement details who is included as a driver in your policy.

We consider the following factors in calculating insurance policy premiums:

  • the age, experience and driving history of the drivers
  • the type of insurance you choose and the optional extras you want
  • the kind of vehicle you are insuring and how much it would cost to repair or replace it
  • your location, where your vehicle is parked and risk of theft

Yes they are. If you’ve chosen one of our Nominated Driver policies, the learner driver must be accompanied by a fully licensed driver aged 25 years or more.

You can choose your own repairer, as long as they are licensed to carry out repairs, or you can choose one of our trusted repair partners to undertake your repairs.

There are four excesses that may be payable for a car insurance claim:

  • basic excess - which you pay if you are deemed at fault and claim under the terms of your policy
  • age excess - for drivers under 25 years
  • inexperienced driver excess - for drivers 25 years and over who have not held a driver’s licence for two consecutive years
  • additional excess - when we have agreed to cover under special terms specific to your policy

If you have a nominated driver policy and someone else under 25 drives the car, you will not be covered for any loss, damage or liability, unless the car is being parked by a valet, repaired, serviced, tested or used in a medical emergency. If the driver is over 25 a double excess is applied.

If you exceed the 10,000 kilometre limit, you may also need to pay an additional premium.
