Managing your insurance policy
Sum insured
As replacement and rebuild costs rise, your sum insured should rise too. To calculate an estimated replacement value, visit our calculator page.
Payment frequency
There's no extra charge if you pay fortnightly, monthly or quarterly. Adjusting your payment frequency to suit you could make it easier to manage your finances.
Excess
If you can afford to pay a higher excess when making a claim, increasing your excess may lower the premium you pay.

FAQs
Learn more about home, building and contents insurance with our quick FAQs.
Your quote for home insurance will clearly specify if there is any excess on your policy and, if so, how it will be calculated and paid.
Yes you are automatically covered in case of flood, regardless of which policy you choose. Your policy will specify the level of your cover and your entitlements in case your home is damaged by flood.
While this varies according to each state, it’s a good idea to take out cover as soon as contracts are signed and exchanged. This helps to safeguard your interest in the property and won’t leave you susceptible to any gaps in the current owner’s cover.
Your lender will likely ask you for evidence of a building insurance policy (also known as a certificate of currency) before your loan settles. You will need to list the lender as an interested party on the certificate, as they also have a financial interest in your property.
Building insurance
Yes, you can. The calculation provided is just a guide. It's your responsibility to ensure your home is insured for its full replacement value. However, if you insure your home for more than the cost to repair, replace, or rebuild, CGU will only pay the actual cost of repairing, replacing, or rebuilding.
Accidental damage cover protects you when unexpected mishaps occur around your home. For instance, if you accidentally put your foot through the ceiling while in the roof. Whether your building is covered depends on your policy. Accidental damage cover can be added as an optional benefit to your Building Standard policy. If you upgrade to Building Plus, it’s automatically included.
Yes, you can choose who repairs your home. However, if you decide not to use one of CGU’s partner repairers, they won't be able to guarantee the workmanship or repairs that are completed, nor assist in managing the repairer regarding timeframes or quality. CGU will also only pay you the fair and reasonable amount that the repairs should cost.
