Meet your local team

27 July 2020 |Community news

Meet David, our new(ish) Branch Manager.

January 2020 marked the start of a new chapter for me as I accepted the role of Branch Manager at the Busselton and Dunsborough Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank.

So my family, that is my wife Karin and daughter Arianna, packed up our life in Perth and made the move south to create our new home in Busselton.

We quickly started to enjoy the benefits of living in such a great place, walking on the beach nearly every night with the dog and getting out and enjoying all of the great local businesses and attractions (yes food and beverage a common theme).

So a bit about my background that led me to this role.

Having worked in the Finance Industry since 1988, in a list of roles that is really too long to go into here today, but included the last three years as a Mortgage Broker, the prospect of working for a bank that had a real commitment to supporting the local communities that it operates in, really caught my attention.

So I hit the ground running, before quickly being hit with the challenges presented by a worldwide pandemic (who would have imagined).

Now, as we find ourselves slowly coming out on the other side, with restrictions easing and life and business starting to resemble some sort of normality, I am really looking forward to continuing my focus on;

  • Growing all facets of the business
  • Growing the teams knowledge and skills
  • Understanding the needs of our communities
  • Growing our market share
  • Growing referral sources

If I haven’t already, I look forward to meeting you at some stage and I encourage you to pick up the phone to myself or my experienced team if you have any questions about your banking needs….no matter how big or small.

One big stand out for me moving into this role has been the perception around Bendigo Bank’s offering and capability. So be assured we offer all the same products and services that the ‘big 4’ banks do, and yes we are competitive on rates - you really just need to give us the chance.

I assure you, our team will look after your needs first and provide you with the best personalised service. Not to mention that just by choosing to bank with us, you are making our support of great community projects, such as the Djiljit Mia Community Gathering Place in Dunsborough, F.A.W.N.A’s Possum Finishing School and the Busselton Jetty Crew Youth Program possible!

I look forward to providing these regular updates for you in the new Wrap-Up.

Until next time.

David Johnston - Branch Manager

I have been a volunteer firefighter in Dunsborough for four years. This has been a really rewarding position, and I have met some really good people. Last year was our first season of touch, and if COVID lifts, we will have a team again this year.

I have been on the board for about three years. I spent one year as vice-chair before taking on the chair position this year.

What do you like most about your role?

I am really enjoying my role as chair and working with the rest of the board and the branch staff on implementing strategies to grow our business, so we can give more back to our local community.

Tell us about your 'day job.'

I am the General Manager of Cartec Training, a Registered Training Organisation, and I also Project Manage some Mining Technology & Automation projects overseas for an Australian technology company.

Motto I live by?

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

It’s none of my business what other people think of me.

Three words that describe you?

Loyal, Optimistic, Fun.

Something most people wouldn't know about you?

I was hospitalised and thought I was having my kidneys removed for the black market when I was in far east Russia.
